At the elections for the mayor of Berlin on 09/17/06 young people of the age of 16 were allowed to vote for the first time and so able to actively take part in political process in Berlin. The Politikfabrik wanted to mobilise and speak to the about 200 000 first-time voters (age-group 1985-1990) and tehrefore started the Wahl Gang project once again.
